A player prop trend page reports how often a player finished over or under the opening prop line, split by situation, with the sample size printed on every row. Read the n column first. Our 100 MLB player pages cover 6,192 lined games from the 2026 season: strikeouts for 50 starting pitchers, total bases for 50 batters.
The pages themselves live at the player index. This post is about how to read one without fooling yourself.
What a player prop trend page shows
Each page covers one player and one prop market: strikeouts for a starting pitcher, total bases for a batter. Three blocks sit on it, and they answer different questions.
The first is a chart of the player's recent lined games. Each bar is what he actually did. The dashed line across it is the opening prop line that morning. Games with no recorded line are drawn grey rather than dropped, so a gap in our odds coverage looks like a gap instead of disappearing.
The second is the table this post is about, headed Conditioned record vs the line. Every row is a subset of that player's 2026 lined games. The columns are the same on every page:
- Split. Which games the row covers. The first row is all of them, and each row below it is a subset of that first row, not of the row above.
- O and U. How many of those games finished above the opening line and how many finished below it. A result exactly on the line counts as neither. Across all 100 headline rows in this snapshot the two columns add up to n exactly, because every opening line in the sample sat on a half point.
- Avg K or Avg TB. The player's average result across those games.
- Avg line. The average opening line across the same games. This is the column most people skip, and it is the one that tells you whether a split reflects the player or the schedule the market already knew about.
- n. How many games are in the row.
The third block is context rather than prop history: percentile bars against every qualified player in the same window, a game log, and for pitchers a park factor. They are there so a number in the table has something to be checked against.
How the opening prop line is built
Every line on these pages is an opener, never a closer. For each book we take that book's earliest recorded capture for the player that morning, then take the median across the books quoting him. The house books are DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, BetOnline.ag and BetRivers.
Two details in that sentence carry weight. The median is a discrete median, so the number printed is one a book actually posted rather than an average landing between two half-point steps. And the choice of openers is not a convenience: a closing line has already absorbed the day's lineup card, weather and money, so a record measured against closers is measuring a different and much later question than a record measured against the number the market first put up.
It also means these pages cannot be read as a closing-line record, and we do not present them as one.
Why a player needs 30 lined games
A player gets a page only if our odds archive holds at least 30 lined games for him: game-log rows whose date carries a same-day quote for that prop from one of the house books. Lines are captured repeatedly in the days around a game, so counting capture dates instead would overstate the sample several times over. We count games.
Two windows are in play here and the difference matters. The gate counts lined games across the whole odds archive, which starts several seasons before this one. The conditioned table on each page covers 2026 only. A player can therefore clear the gate comfortably and still show single figures in a 2026 split, and the season totals behind these pages run from 5 to 120 games, a median of 42.
The gate exists because the conditioned table is where small samples do their damage. A seven-start split moves on one good night. To make that concrete rather than rhetorical, here is the whole board: for each comparison the pages publish, how many of the 50 pages have enough games on both sides to compare at all, what the typical difference between the halves is, and what the widest one is.

Gap = the difference between the two halves in the average-result column, in strikeouts for pitchers and total bases for batters. A page counts only when both halves carry at least 7 games. Measured across the 100 wave-one pages as they stood on 2026-08-12.
The four widest gaps on that board are the four examples below. They are the extremes of the distribution, not typical pages, and the median column is the honest comparison point for anything you find yourself getting excited about.
Four real splits from the 2026 season
The selection rule was fixed in the script before the pages were read, so these are not four favourites. For each player type and each comparison, a page qualifies when both halves carry at least 7 games, and the example is the qualifying page with the largest difference between the halves. Ties break on the larger combined sample, then alphabetically. The runner-up in each case is named, so a near miss is visible rather than quietly dropped. They are ordered here by sample size, largest first, which is the order you should read any set of splits in.
Yandy Díaz, home and away
Yandy Díaz averaged 2.14 total bases in 56 home games, finishing 30–26 against the opening line, and 1.51 in 57 on the road, finishing 22–35. The average opening line itself was 1.46 at home and 1.5 away.
That is a gap of 0.63 total bases between the two halves, the widest on that comparison among the 50 batter pages carrying at least 7 games on both sides of it. The median gap there is 0.25. The runner-up was Kyle Schwarber at 0.58.

What these pages do not do
They publish no picks, no selections and no recommended wagers, and they carry no projection of their own. Every figure is a count of something that already happened, with its window and its sample size attached.
Four limits are worth stating plainly, because a table this tidy invites more confidence than it has earned:
- A split is a label, not an adjustment. A home row is not park-adjusted, and a top-ten opponent row applies a season-long rank to every game in it rather than the opponent's form that week.
- The rows are subsets of one partial season. Opponent groups change from year to year, and so do the players in them.
- The n column is the whole warning. Nothing on these pages tells you that a split with seven games in it will repeat.
- Coverage stops at the gate. A player under 30 lined games has no page rather than a thin one.
A separate page does publish a forward number. The pitcher strikeout board carries our model's independent pre-game strikeout projection for the day's probable starters, shown beside the market's opening line, with its own method note and its record on the track record page. The player pages are history; that board is the projection. Keeping the two apart is the point of both.
How this was measured
- Source: the 100 published pages under nebulainsights.net/players/, read as they stood on 2026-08-12 and quoted cell for cell. No player figure on this post was recomputed from the underlying archive, so nothing here can disagree with the page it came from.
- Coverage: 50 starting pitchers (strikeouts) and 50 batters (total bases), 6,192 lined games in the 2026 season in total, a median of 42 per page and a range of 5 to 120.
- Prop lines: each book's earliest recorded capture on the game date, discrete median across the quoting books, from DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, BetOnline.ag and BetRivers. Openers, never closers.
- Example selection: pre-registered. Both halves of a comparison must carry at least 7 games; the example is the largest absolute difference between the halves in the average-result column; ties break on combined sample size, then slug. Runners-up are named on the page.
- The pages regenerate daily in season, so the figures here are a dated snapshot. Each example links to its page, where the current numbers live.

What does the n column on a player prop page mean?
The number of games in that row. It is printed on every split because it is the first thing that decides how much a row is worth: a seven-game split and a hundred-game split look identical until you read it.
Do these pages use opening lines or closing lines?
Openers only. For each book we take its earliest recorded capture on the game date, then the discrete median across the books quoting that player, from DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, BetOnline.ag and BetRivers. A record measured against closing lines would be a different measurement and we do not publish one.
Why is a split sometimes missing from a page?
Because it has no games in it. A starter who never faced a top-ten strikeout offence this season has no such row, and we leave the row out rather than print a zero that reads like a result.
How many games does a player need before he gets a page?
At least 30 lined games in our odds archive, meaning games whose date carries a same-day prop quote from one of our house books. That count runs across the whole archive rather than the current season, so it is not the same number as the n on the 2026 splits table. Players below the gate have no page at all.
Are these pages predictions?
No. They report what already happened, with the window and the sample size attached. Nebula Insights publishes no picks and no recommended wagers. The one forward number we publish for this sport, the pitcher strikeout projection, lives on its own board with its record attached.
