Usually, no. Standard sports-betting arbitrage relies on taking the best opposing prices at two or more sportsbooks so the combined implied probability is below 100%. One sportsbook normally builds a margin into both sides of the same market, making a guaranteed profit impossible. Rare exceptions can arise from promotions, stale prices or related markets.

Check a specific pair of prices with the arbitrage calculator.

Why one sportsbook normally cannot offer a true arbitrage

For a two-outcome market, convert both prices to implied probability and add them together.

A single book normally prices both outcomes so their implied probabilities total more than 100%.

Example without an arbitrage

A sportsbook offers:

Each side implies approximately 52.38%. Together they total about 104.76%, so staking both sides cannot produce a profit on every outcome — the 4.76 percentage points above 100% are the book's margin.

Situations that can resemble one-book arbitrage

Promotions and odds boosts

A boost, free bet, insurance offer or profit enhancement can change the effective value of one side. Whether any exposure genuinely remains depends on the promotion's detailed rules, stake limits and withdrawal restrictions, so the promotion's terms have to be read before the arithmetic means anything.

Stale or erroneous pricing

A sportsbook may briefly post inconsistent prices across related markets. Books can suspend, void or limit bets under their house rules, so an apparent pricing error is not equivalent to a dependable arbitrage strategy.

Betting both sides at different times

Line movement may let someone hold favorable prices on opposite outcomes at the same sportsbook. This can create a middle or a low-risk hedge, but it is not automatically a guaranteed arbitrage. The exact prices and possible outcomes must be calculated.

Related markets

Different markets can overlap, such as moneyline, spread, totals and alternate lines. Overlap does not guarantee complete outcome coverage. Settlement rules and correlated outcomes make these positions more complex than a standard two-way arbitrage.

Arbitrage versus middling versus hedging

The hedge calculator covers the third case, where the objective is reducing exposure on an existing ticket.

Why multiple sportsbooks matter

Different books may disagree because they have different customers, limits, risk positions and update speeds. Shopping across books can occasionally produce opposing prices whose implied probabilities total less than 100%. That price dispersion is the normal source of a sports-betting arbitrage.

Important practical constraints

Even when the math shows an arbitrage, execution risk remains:

We publish odds boards and line history, and we provide calculators that work on prices you enter. We do not operate an arbitrage scanner and we send no betting alerts. Nothing on this page is a recommendation to place a wager.

Frequently asked questions

Can you bet both teams on the same sportsbook?

Usually yes, but placing both sides does not mean the position is profitable. At normal prices, the sportsbook margin means backing both sides loses money on every outcome.

Can an odds boost create an arbitrage?

Potentially, but only after accounting for maximum stake, eligible markets, payout restrictions and the opposing price.

Is a middle guaranteed profit?

No. A middle creates a profitable result range, but outcomes outside that range may lose money.

What total implied probability means an arbitrage exists?

Below 100%. Two −110 prices total about 104.76%, which is above 100% and therefore not an arbitrage. A pair such as +150 and −120 totals about 94.55%, which is below 100% and is a theoretical arbitrage before execution costs.
